Phase change material (PCM) is a solid sheet at room temperature that transitions to a soft, semi-liquid state when it reaches approximately 45°C - which happens naturally during normal CPU or GPU operation. In its liquid phase, it fills microscopic surface irregularities perfectly, eliminating air gaps and maximizing thermal contact. When you shut down and it cools, it re-solidifies - ready for the next session. This behavior gives it an advantage over paste in long-term stability: no pump-out effect, no degradation over time.

Clean both surfaces with alcohol wipes. Peel the protective liner from the sheet. Place the sheet centered on the CPU or GPU die (slightly larger than the die is fine - it doesn't spread past the contact area). Carefully mount the heatsink or waterblock on top and tighten to spec. On first boot, the material reaches operating temperature, transitions to liquid phase, and self-levels for optimal contact. No pre-spreading needed.

Partially - if you disassemble carefully, the sheet may still have usable material, but re-use isn't guaranteed. Unlike putty, PTM sheets are consumed by the phase transition and surface conforming process. We recommend using a fresh sheet for best results when disassembling for any reason. The good news: installation and removal are clean and straightforward.

FusionSheet PTM at 8.5 W/mK sits between mid and premium paste performance. In practice, PTM often matches or slightly exceeds quality paste performance because of its superior contact mechanics - the liquid phase fills gaps that paste under mounting pressure may not fully conform to. The key advantage over paste is long-term stability: PTM doesn't degrade, dry out, or pump out over time.

38x38mm: fits most desktop CPUs (Intel LGA17xx, AMD AM4/AM5) and covers the die with minimal trimming needed. 50x40mm: ideal for larger CPUs (Threadripper, HEDT) or GPU die contact areas. 80x40mm: covers extra-large die areas or allows one sheet to span multiple components on a GPU. All sizes can be trimmed with scissors. Choose the closest match to your die size - slight overhang is fine.

No. FusionSheet PTM is fully electrically insulating (0 S/m). It is completely safe to use near PCB traces, SMD components, and memory chips. Any overhang onto the surrounding board area will not cause short circuits.
