Measure the gap between your component and heatsink with a feeler gauge or caliper, or measure the original pad. Typical values, which vary by model and device: desktop GPU VRAM 1.0–2.0mm (often 1.5mm), laptop VRAM 0.5–1.0mm, VRM 1.0–2.0mm, GPU backplates 2.0–3.0mm, M.2 SSD heatsinks 0.5–1.5mm (usually 1.0mm), consoles vary by revision. If your measurement falls between two sizes, choose the next size up; on laptops and GPUs make sure the cooler still sits flat on the chip. Keep the rest of the set for your next build.

Yes. Every pad in the set is fully electrically insulating (9.8 kV/mm per ASTM D149) and not electrically conductive, so a stray placement or slight overlap onto PCB traces is safe.
