Thermal paste is a liquid compound that spreads thin and fills micro-gaps under pressure. Thermal putty is a solid, moldable material you shape manually - it fills larger or irregular gaps that paste can't span. Putty doesn't require the same mounting pressure to work, and it stays in place without flowing. It's ideal for surfaces that aren't perfectly flat, or for VRM and memory cooling where gaps vary across the component.

Yes. Unlike paste, putty can be removed and reapplied multiple times without losing effectiveness. It doesn't dry out or harden under normal operating conditions. When removing, gently peel or scrape it off - it comes away cleanly from most surfaces. You can reshape and reuse the same putty for multiple repastes, making it especially economical for regular maintenance.

Clean the surfaces with alcohol wipes first. Pinch off a small amount of putty, roll it into a thin sheet or ball, and press it firmly onto the component surface. It should fully cover the contact area with slight overflow at the edges. Mount the cooler and apply even pressure. The putty conforms to both surfaces under the mounting force, eliminating air gaps.

Fusion Thermal Putty maintains its moldable consistency over the long term. It does not dry out, crack, or become brittle under normal operating temperatures (-50°C to +200°C). The Shore 00-10 hardness rating means it remains soft and conformable even after years of use. No pump-out effect under thermal cycling.

No. Fusion Thermal Putty is fully electrically insulating. It is safe to use on and around PCB traces, SMD components, memory chips, and VRM circuits without risk of short circuits.

It excels anywhere surfaces aren't perfectly flat: VRM heatsink contact (GPU and motherboard), multi-chip memory modules, irregular CPU IHS surfaces, custom cooling frame contact, console boards with non-standard geometry, and anywhere you need a gap-filling TIM that won't run or flow. For standard CPU-to-IHS contact with good pressure, traditional paste is often simpler. For everything else - putty wins.
